Support For Maui

Message from Dr. Paul Drouin

On August 8, 2023, the beautiful town of Lahaina, Maui was devastated by a raging wildfire that engulfed homes, businesses, and historical landmarks. Driven by dry conditions and hurricane-fueled winds, the flames forced all residents to evacuate as their community and belongings were reduced to ash in mere hours.

Two weeks have passed since this heartbreaking disaster occurred and the people of Maui are still uncovering the true extent of the damage and loss. At least 100+ lives were lost and they’re over one thousand are still unaccounted for.

Now as Lahaina begins the long journey of rebuilding, the people of Maui are in great need of support and assistance more than ever.

Lahaina’s road to recovery will be long and difficult, but by coming together in shared compassion, we can help illuminate the way forward. Together we can unite in support of Maui’s vibrant community in this time of need.

With a major disaster such as the Maui fires, there is always the chance that scammers will try to take advantage of those willing to assist. As always, be careful when choosing an organization for donations. The Hawaiʻi Attorney General has tips on how to avoid scams.
