Theoretical Principles of Integrative Medicine
Note to Students who currently have the original IM-701 New Quantum Context for Medicine: No further action is needed. Your personal course site will also be updated with this new version. This course is part of Quantum University’s PhD in Natural and Integrative Medicine (DNM and IMD).
New Recorded Video Course and Recorded Live Q&A
In this course, we explore the issues confronting the development of a truly integrative medicine – one that integrates conventional and alternative or complementary medicine practices. Currently, conventional allopathic medicine is based on Newtonian physics and a biology based on scientific materialism – the metaphysical idea that matter is the ground of all being. We begin our exploration with studying the incompleteness of this approach and the anomalies and paradoxes that go unaddressed.
Next, we develop ideas of quantum physics and how they lead to a science within the primacy of consciousness – the metaphysics that consciousness, not matter, is the ground of all being. We show that once medicine is formulated within the primacy of consciousness, it becomes clear how to make the practice of medicine truly holistic.
We explore the role of creativity in the new integrative medicine. We examine the doctor-patient relationship from the new medicine point of view. We explore patient responsibility and preventive medicine. We end the course with a discussion of the future outlook of the integrative medicine that results.
1. Introduction: Why medicine needs to overcome the shortcomings of Newtonian physics and biology and develop an integrative philosophy of medicine
2. Enter the quantum: Quantum Physics and introducing Consciousness in Medicine
3. Quantum psychophysical parallelism: the conceptual basis for a philosophy of integrative medicine and a new classification of disease and healing
4. Disease, health, and positive health: balance and harmony
5. How vital body medicine works: the role of placebo and creativity
6. How mind-body medicine works: quantum healing
7. The quantum basis for a new Doctor-Patient relationship
8. Patient responsibility and preventive care
9. The future of integrative medicine
What You Will Take Away from the Course:
You will learn why medicine needs an integrative philosophy, and you will learn the conceptual basis for a philosophy of integrative medicine. Conventional allopathic medicine is based on Newtonian physics and a biology based on scientific materialism – the metaphysical idea that matter is the ground of all being. You will learn the incompleteness of this approach and the anomalies and paradoxes that go unaddressed.
You will learn how the ideas of quantum physics lead to a science within the primacy of consciousness – the metaphysics that consciousness, not matter, is the ground of all being. You will learn that once medicine is formulated within the primacy of consciousness, it becomes clear how to make the practice of medicine truly holistic and what this means. You will gain a new understanding of disease, health, and positive health. And you will gain a vision of the future of integrative medicine.
Dr. Amit Goswami, PhD is professor emeritus in the physics department of the University of Oregon, since 1968. He is a pioneer of the new paradigm of science called science within consciousness. Goswami is the author of the highly successful textbook Quantum Mechanics. Goswami has also written eight popular books based on his research on quantum physics and consciousness. In his seminal book, “The Self-Aware Universe”, he solved the quantum measurement problem elucidating the famous observer effect while paving the path to a new paradigm of science based on the primacy of consciousness.
